Martin Haines is a ceramic artist living and working in Nieu Bethesda, South Africa producing a selection of ceramic forms both sculptural and functional.
His most recent sculptural works have focused on cats and the HARE as a sculptural form – the visual image of the hare is used to explore both form and surface using both texture and pattern to create an integral relationship between the various design elements.
The surface decoration of his most recent vessels often includes social commentary reflecting the historical narrative of our times and past history.
His design colours are mainly blue and white inspired by the traditional early European porcelain namely Delftware or green and white using copper oxide.
The work is decorative incorporating Seventeen Century motives with Contemporary abstract design elements.
His work can be found in numerous art collections both local and International.
